Srinagar:
Srinagar is
located in the heart of the Kashmir valley at an altitude of
1,730 m above sea level, spread on both sides of the river
Jhelum. The Dal and Nagin lakes enhance its picturesque

Means Royal Springs. Built by Dara Shiku, son of Emperor

Shanker
Acharya Temple: Situated on top of the ShankarAcharya Hill.
Old name of the hill is Gopadri and Jyeshtgesvara. The
antiquity of the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Jamia Masjid:
Largest of Muslim Mosques, situated in the heart of the old
city Srinagar. It has a chequerred past. It was rebuilt
completely after being destroyed by a devastating fire. Its an
archeological wonder with 300 pillars supporting it made of
single complete logs of Deowdar wood.

Shahi-Hamdan
Mosque:
Its a wooden structure located between 3rd and 4th
bridge on the river Jhelum. The chief aesthete tic feature
if the mosque are the beautifully carved caves and hanging
bells. The interior are richly carved and painted and
chandeliers give it an air if opulence.

Hari Parbath
Fort:
Built between 11592 - 1598 during the Rule of the King Akbar on the top of Kohimaran Hill.

Hazrathbal
Shrine:
Located on the west bank of Dal Lake. The most
sacred of Shrines in the Valley. It is said to contain the
holy relic of Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him). The
present structure was built by Muslim Auqaf Trust.

Rozabal
Shrine: Located in Khanyar. Some believe it to be the birth
place of prophet Jesus Christ.

Sheri Garhi:
Erstwhile home of Dogra Rulers, was later a secretariat
building. Was ravaged by a fire which destroyed much of its
papier-mâché, paintings and etc.

Chatti
Padshahi Gurdwara:
6th Guru of Sikhs visited Kashmir, stayed
here and preached to his followers. Its located at Kathi
Darwaza Srinagar.
