Beautiful health
resort, 56 Kms away from Srinagar. Legend has it that is is so
beautiful because of the blessing of Gori wife of Lord Shiva
who used to rear her cattle and was earlier known as Gorivon
and was named Gulmarg by Yousuf Chak Chak. King Jehangir used
to visit this place along with his beloved NoorJehan.

to Gulmarg road is lined by woods of pine and poplar making it
a fascinating journey by Car, bus or jeep. It also has special

Pony Ride:
From Gulmarg,
Pony tracks lead upwards to Khilanmarg, seven Spring and
Alpanther, a couple of hours by pony, longer by foot and 15
minutes of exhilarating journey by Gulmarg Gondola. |

Mountains:
From here
across Apharwal peak which looms invitingly, is Alpanther
lake, a scenic Alpine lake frozen till late June. For Horse
riding aficionados, Alpather lake makes an exciting days
journey starting early morning and returning late.
All around are
seen snow capped mountains and on a clear day one can see the
Nanga Parbath from Khilanmarg and on the right side one can see
Kolohi which is called Matter Horn of India.
Again on the rt
side of Kolohi one can see the twin peaks of Zanskar Range
called Nun and Kun and also the Brahma and Brahma's spouse
Peaks of Kishtwar. |
