Kashmiri people have never been a
big fan of foods having high fiber and not fat. Thus the choice of
Strict Veg places to eat out is slightly limited. However I bring
you the best you can have while in Srinagar. |

Mehfil
Restaurant |
|
Real good quality and reasonably
decent prices make this a good place to eat at if you are in for
something that actually tastes like Chinese. Do remember the soups
though, for you would be missing something otherwise. Seating
arrangement is so so and service is good. You can also listen to
the Sound of Jagjit Sing singing his melodious Ghazals over the
Speakers, whenever I went it was the only thing playing.
Dishes, Kashmiri Wazwaan,
Chinese, Vegetarian, local etc.
Location:
Mehfil Restaurant, Near HDFC Bank, Polo view Srinagar.

Waterfall
Cafe |
|
An excellent seating arrangement
along with great ambience makes this one of the most visited
places in Srinagar City. If only the food was up to the mark...but
Alas! that is hardly the case here. Food is bland and Chinese
tastes like traditional Kashmiri food. However the service is
good. Visit only if you want to spend some time in a nice place
without bothering about what's cooking.
Dishes, Kashmiri Wazwaan.
Chinese, Continental, Indian etc.
Location:
Waterfall Cafe , Fairdeal Complex Lal Chowk Srinagar
Kashmir.

Shamiana
Restaurant |
|
Situated on the banks of Dal Lake
some hundred meters away from Dal Gate. Nice place to be in if
visiting with family or lots of friends. Has a new Conference
facility eat out where probably many people could satisfy their
taste buds while discussing business. Food tastes good and
services equals it if not betters. Has room for many with a huge
number of tables. Best visited in the evenings. Was the
First restaurant in the valley to offer Pizza on menu.
Dishes, Kashmiri Wazwaan.
Chinese, Continental, Indian etc.
Location:
Shamina, Near Dal Gate, on Boulevard road.

|
Vivands Restaurant |
|
Situated above the Waterfall Cafe,
good quality food which is given in a good quantity too. The
biggest drawback, if you can call it that is the presence of Cabin
System in the place favoring Lovelorn couples of the valley.
Would not recommend it if you are carrying a family along.
Dishes, Kashmiri Wazwaan.
Chinese, Continental, Indian etc.
Location:
Krishna Dhaba, Near Burn Hall School. Opposite Petrol Pump.
|
|
Dawat
Restaurant |
|
Place to be if you want some
privacy, not because its private but because very few people go
there. Its actually the extension of a Hotel situated near the
Nehru Park in Dal Lake. Dishes are limited and service is average.
Dishes, Kashmiri Wazwaan.
Chinese, Continental, Indian etc.
Location:
Dawat Resturant, Near Nehru Park Police Station.

Alka Salka
Restaurant |
|
Nice and clean, built very well to.
Good place to be to discuss business matters as most of the other
clients do that. Food is OK but the place is better. Recommended
for family outings.
Location:
Alka Salka Near Jet Airways Office GPO Srinagar.

Camci Restaurant |
|
Situated very close to Mehfil and
HDFC bank in the center of Lal Chowk. The place has the right kind
of lighting for an extended lunch or early dinner, and the food
doesn't disappoint either. In fact its the personal favorite of
Dr. Andleeb a close friend. Kashmiri and Chinese foods don't
confuse in the taste or the aroma. Services good too. Only the
place is crowded most of the times so don't rush in if the old HCl
is giving you a hard time.
Location:
Lal Chowk. Opposite Lambert Lane.

|
Bostan
Restaurant |
|
Started and probably still
maintained by Jammu and Kashmir Bank limited. The place lies near
the Iqbal Park which was renovated by the same bank. The quality
of the food served is unexpectedly good. The soups taste really
nice too. However the place seems to be not as well
maintained as it should have been. Cant call it lack of funds
courtesy J&K Bank, maybe it just needs someone who knows how and
where to spend.
Location:
Bostan , Near Iqbal Park Srinagar.

|
Falak
Restaurant |
|
Situated Opposite to the LD
Hospital. Place its or was famous for its "Family Cabins" for
which they charged something from those wishing to spend some
quiet time with their family... or with someone special though not
family, yet. Food is not upto the mark, and last time we ended up
being served something other than that we had ordered.
Location:
Falak Restaurant, Opp LD Hospital Srinagar.

|

Acka Sacka
Restaurant, |
|
One of the oldest Places worth
eating out in. It was the erstwhile Alka Salka till the split. Has
nice quiet surroundings, food tasting good and a unique Ancient
feel to it. Go to the place if you want to try something
different.
Location:
Lal Chowk. Opposite State Bank of India ATM.

Others |
|
Many Small and Big Restaurants can
be found in Kashmir valley, most of them around the busy Lal Chowk.(
I know I missed a few but I don't remember which). Wine, beer and
other Alcoholic drinks are strictly prohibited in all places and
asking for one may lead to a major embarrassment. Also please
remember that all meat and Chicken served in purely Halal variety
according to the customs of the Majority Muslim Community.
