Mosque of Akhoon Mullah Shah 1658 AD.

Mosque of Akhoon Mullah Shah 1658 AD.

The construction of the mosque was started in 1628 and was completed in 1658 AD. Its situated at the foot of Kohimaran Hill (Hari Parbath) near the later built Shrine of Maqdoom Sahib. The Architecture resembles Pari Mahal in Srinagar. The mosque has a series of arched terraces perched on the slopes of the hill. It has a number of  concealed chambers for students with arcades and voice synch domes all around.

The mosque is built of Grey Limestone. Jewels and mirrors were fitted in the walls to illuminate the whole place in the evenings.

The main building is surrounded by preaching chambers where students used to learn the Holy Quraan from the tutor Mullah Akhoon Shah. The front and the top most terraces have gardens with three huge chinars lined up with a stone lined pond in the center.

THe mosque is believed to be interconnected with the Maqdooom Sahib Shrine via a secret under-ground passage but the path is not visible, only the arch is seen on the ground level.

The present state of the Mosque is rather pathetic. The roof has fallen down, according to the locals due to a bolt of Lightning, the walls are crumbling and the whole place is in ruins.
